Artificial Intelligence shapes our daily lives, from the videos we watch to the jobs we apply for. But with great power comes great responsibility!
Who decides how AI should be used? Can algorithms really be fair? What happens when technology reinforces stereotypes instead of breaking them?
A Reality Check: Why AI & Ethics Matter
Research and real risks show that without careful attention, AI can amplify injustice, not correct it.
The FRA (2022) report indicates that people from minority ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately impacted by algorithmic decision-making in certain domains (e.g. policing, public services). Although exact % differ by country/domain, the report flags that these effects are large enough to constitute systemic risk. (FRA)
However, a new Eurobarometer survey (Feb 2025) finds that 62% of Europeans view robots and AI positively in the workplace, and over 70% believe they improve productivity. But a large majority with 84%, feel that AI requires careful management to protect privacy and ensure transparency. In the same survey, 82% of Europeans believe there should be clear rules for how digital technologies are used, for example, with rights to privacy in the workplace. (European Commission)
You can learn more about AI and Ethics at the heart of our brand-new learning module: “The Ethics of AI – Empowering Youth for a Fair Future.”
What You’ll Discover in the Module
This interactive learning journey helps participants:
- Understand what ethics really means, and why it matters in everyday decisions.
- Explore the key ethical challenges of AI, from bias and misinformation to privacy and accountability.
- Analyse how AI-generated content can reinforce stereotypes and learn how to spot and question them.
- Experiment hands-on with image generation tools to see how bias sneaks into outputs and discuss ways to counter it.
By engaging with AI through the lens of ethics, we’re not only preparing young women to use technology wisely, we’re empowering them to shape a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable future.
This module is a gateway to questioning, reflecting, and building the ethical skills we need in an AI-driven world.
